    Gloria is not the first school that I have studied English in, but it is the first place that aroused my interest in English. When I started coming to class at Gloria, I was attracted to the special ways that teachers taught and the students that enjoyed learning.

    Teachers in Gloria teach English by playing interesting games, listening to pop songs, and even acting, not just studying rigid boring English grammar from text books. Teachers frequently give us lots of information in riddles, proverbs, and current events in English that can enlarge our horizons.

    Students here are not only classmates, but also friends you can practice speaking English and share your feelings or experiences with. It really helps me a lot.

    I have learned in Gloria for about four years. During this time, I have improved my listening, speaking, and writing skills so that I can use English more perfectly, and now I have no problem communicating with visitors who come from other countries or people I meet when I travel abroad.

    My teachers, Sino and Jerry, both play great roles in my life at Gloria. Sino is the best English teacher I have ever met. She is not only my English teacher but a friend that uses her life experiences and her optimism to influence values in my life. And Jerry is the funniest foreign teacher I have ever met. He uses his humor to make our classes more interesting and to help us answer many questions that we have about English.

    In Gloria, you don’t feel so much pressure studying, but you will always have fun learning English with earnest, conscientious teachers and smart, outgoing classmates. At the very beginning, I came here because I wanted to learn English, but now I remain here because of my love and interests.

 

 

    Most people celebrate their birthdays by hanging out with their friends or having dinner with their family, because their birthdays mean a lot to them. Someone’s birthday is also considered a meaningful occasion for family and friends to get together. As for me, I usually celebrate my birthday like other people. This year, however, I had a special birthday which made the day an unforgettable day in my life.

    February 5th is my birthday. I didn’t notice that day this year because I have to deal with numerous tests and endless studying, just like every other day. I woke up early as usual. I got on a crowded bus and then arrived at school. I thought it was just another ordinary day in my life. Under the pressure of tests and studying, I didn’t even notice something was wrong with my classmates until much later that day.

    All my classmates treated me like I was totally invisible. They neither talked to me, nor responded to me. I couldn’t help but wondered why. We used to hang out and have fun all the time. We used to be so close to each other’s heart. We could always talk about anything and share all our secrets with each other.

    What did I do wrong to deserve this? Was it something I said? Was it something I did? Did I hurt anyone without being aware of it? Many questions popped into my mind, yet they remained unanswered. I suffered from being ignored and isolated for the whole day. I couldn’t figure out why, and I didn’t think anyone on the planet could do. I didn’t even have the courage to ask why because things had become too hard for me to handle.

    After the long day, I felt upset, furious, helpless, uncertain and disappointed. All I wanted to do was to hurry home immediately and be alone. As I went out of school, however, and much to my surprise, I saw all my friends standing on the street! Apparently, they had been waiting for me. They shouted out, “Happy Birthday!” and presented me with a huge birthday cake with my name on it.

    I was so shocked and happy that I burst into tears. Finally, I realized that their silence was nothing but a practical joke! I felt so relieved. We hugged each other. Believe me, it was the best hug ever! What lovely friends they are! What a special and wonderful day it was! Even though I had painful feelings of being left by all my good friends, it was clear that it was never easy for them to pretend that they didn’t see or care about me. No one likes to hide their true feelings for someone they love or care about. My dearest and lovely friends, who had to fake it all day just to give me a surprise party, indeed brought me an interesting experience, and taught me an important lesson.

    Now, it still makes me smile every time I think of what happened on that day. In the coming years of my life, I will spend more birthdays hanging out with my friends or dining out with my family. I’m sure none of my coming birthdays, however, will be comparable to the one I had this year. I love this unforgettable birthday, and I love all my unforgettable friends! Not only did this unforgettable birthday mark the friendship between me and my best friends, but also wrote an unforgettable chapter in my young life!
